Historian Robin Winks, a distinguished scholar of the British Empire, once said that "The historian of the United States who is ignorant of Canadian history is ignorant of his own history." Winks, like many of his contemporaries, implicitly understood the transnational nature of North American historical development. As such, Facing North: Canadian Studies with American Scholars was born from a simple question: How much do Americans really know about Canada? Through interviews with America's leading scholars of Canadian Studies, we seek to set the record straight, highlighting the incredible wealth of knowledge that lies beyond our shared southern border.
