Historian Robin Winks, a distinguished scholar of the British Empire, once said that "The historian of the United States who is ignorant of Canadian history is ignorant of his own history." Winks, like many of his contemporaries, implicitly understood the transnational nature of North American historical development and its enduring significance. And yet, today, Americans know little of this shared reality. Thus, Facing North: Canadian Studies with American Scholars was born from a simple question: how much do Americans really know about Canada? Through interviews with leading scholars of Canadian Studies in the United States, I seek to highlight the incredible wealth of knowledge that lies on the southern side of our shared international border.
Join Chase W. Fleece, an environmental historian of the Great Lakes region, as he sits down with scholars from across the disciplinary spectrum about all things Canada. You can find Facing North on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts!
